Dear Parents and Families,

       Recent events in our country have called our attention to the safety of our school and the students, faculty and staff at Saint Kevin School. We can assure you that your child’s or grandchild’s safety has always been the paramount concern of our efforts. Long before these tragic events we worked hard with school safety experts, including plans with Warwick Police and Warwick Fire to respond to any and all emergencies or threats to our safety. We received advice on changes to make to our building, grounds and procedures and added and implemented them right away including locking all school doors at all times, adding surveillance cameras in and around our building, and incorporating self-locking classroom doors and the emergency hardware that gives teachers and administrators the ability to instantly alert authorities to any event or threat.
      We are grateful to our friends at the Warwick Police and Fire departments for their partnership in all safety concerns and our various in-service trainings, including the presence of security personnel embedded at our Masses and major events. We have hired a police officer to be on duty at Grandparent’s Day in October—the largest event of our school year—and we now lock all church doors for Masses or gatherings and post teachers at the doors. These recommendations have already been implemented, but we will keep others to ourselves so as not to give those who would seek to do us harm information about our readiness and how to possibly defeat it. We live in an open and free society and do not want to restrict our students and create confusion or fear, but instead to help keep them alert and vigilant in a challenging world.
      May God bless and protect our students, faculty, staff, and families and keep Saint Kevin School safe as the place of faith, excellence and service it has been for the past 65 years.
